Victory Junction Holiday Gala

December 17, 2010

Tonight, Bill, Mirielle and I were supposed to go to a Holiday Gala sponsored by Paul Newman's Own and Victory Junction but I am still sick with a virus. Sooo.... Bill just left with Mirielle and her dear friend Alina who went in my stead. They looked so grown up I had to take pictures!

Trip to FL

Sept. 29, 2010

Ten days ago we took a whirlwind trip to FL to celebrate Julie's bridal shower! It was also Bill's and my 27th wedding anniversary that weekend. We had a wonderful time seeing Jon and Julie, staying with the Griffiths and seeing the VanLue's! It was a pretty rough weekend physically for me, but God's grace was sufficient!

I must have been very hungry when taking these pictures because many of them are of the food we ate :). I hope you enjoy the pix!

Apple Pickin' Time!

He is on the move right now!

August 20, 2010

"Love produces hope. If we, in our misery, are absolutely persuaded of God's love, we will be confident that he will deliver us. Therefore, we hope in him. We can wait as long as it takes, because we are sure that he hears us and loves us. He will come. He will deliver. In fact, he is on the move right now. God's loves inspires both an eagerness to be with him and a confidence that he is true to his word, so we know he will come. It is these two - eagerness and confidence - that combine to form hope." ~Ed Welch

I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope. Psalm 130:5

Waiting

August 15, 2010

Are you in a season of waiting? I am. I love what Andrew Murray says, "The waiting is to teach us our absolute dependence upon Gods mighty working, and to make us in perfect patience~ place ourselves at His disposal. " There is much to do while waiting! I love this song :). (Please pause the player down on the right)

A Divine Story

If God is sovereign, then he is control of all the details of my life. If he is loving, then he is going to be shaping the details of my life for my good. If he is all-wise, then he’s not going to do everything I want because I don’t know what I need. If he is patient, then he is going to take time to do all this. When we put these all together–God’s sovereignty, love, wisdom, and patience–we have a divine story.

Sparkle with Wonder!

July 27, 2010

"When you stop trying to control your life and instead allow your anxieties and problems to bring you to God in prayer, you shift from worry to watching. You watch God weave His patterns in the story of your life. Instead of trying to be out front, designing your life, you realize you are inside God's drama. As you wait, you begin to see Him work, and your life begins to sparkle with wonder. You are learning to trust again." A Praying Life/Paul E. Miller

Enter the world of a child~

July 17, 2010

Don’t try to get the prayer right; just tell God where you are and what’s on your mind. That’s what little children do. They come as they are, runny noses and all.To learn how to pray is to enter the world of a child, where all things are possible.Little children are good at helplessness. It’s what they do best … God wants us to come to him empty-handed, weary, and heavy -laden.

Happy 4th!

How are you feeling?

June 28, 2010

Due to a long term physical trial, many people ask how I'm doing/feeling. I often think of Anne of Green Gable's response to this question.

"'I am well in body although considerably rumpled up in spirit, thank you ma'am," said Anne gravely." :)

I like to say the opposite... "I am well in
spirit although rather rumpled in body."

When I mentioned the above to a friend last week, she told me of John Quincy Adam's reply when asked this question. I must say it is quite clever!

When John Quincy Adams was well past the usual span of life, a young friend met him on the street and asked, “How is John Quincy Adams today?”

Adams replied: “John Quincy Adams is very well, thank you. But the house he lives in is sadly dilapidated. It is tottering on its foundations. The walls are badly shattered and the roof is worn. The building trembles with every wind, and I think John Quincy Adams will have to move out before long. But he himself is very well, thank you.”

More Good Deeds!

June 10, 2010

"Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can." - John Wesley

Amen!

Good Deeds!

June 8, 2010

The Lord has been teaching me about good deeds lately. Here's a taste from His Word! I pray it encourages you to be zealous for good deeds as well :)

“…in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds…“ Titus 2:7

“…Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.” Titus 2:14

“…to be ready for every good deed…” Titus 3:1

“…so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds.” Titus 3:8

“Our people must also learn to engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs, so that they will not be unfruitful.” Titus 3:14

"In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16

Speaking of our motives..."Take care not to do your good deeds publicly or before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you will have no reward with and from your Father Who is in heaven." Matthew 6:1

"Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share." I Tim. 6:18

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10

June 2, 2010

Don't imagine that if you meet a really humble man he will be what most people call "humble" nowadays: he won't be a sort of greasy, smarmy person, who's always telling you that, of course, he's nobody. Probably all you'll think about him is that he seemed a cheerful, intelligent chap who took a real interest in what you said to him. If you do dislike him, it will be because you feel a bit envious of anyone who seems to enjoy life so easily. He won't be thinking about himself at all. There I must stop. If anyone would like to acquire humility, I can, I think, tell him the first step. The first step is to realize that one is proud. And a biggish step, too. At least, nothing whatever can be done before it. --C.S. Lewis

I am sure that there are many Christians who will confess that their experience has been very much like my own—that we had long known the Lord without realizing that meekness and lowliness of heart should be the distinguishing feature of the disciple, as they were of the Master. Such humility is not a thing that will come on its own. It must be made the object of special desire, prayer, faith and practice. Andrew Murray

Contentment

May 26, 2010

Complaining has sadly made it's way in our home so...we've been endeavoring to use our gift of speech for God's glory! I read the below from a dear, wise saint from the 1800's... and thought it blog worthy :).

"If we wish to gain contentment, we might try such rules as these:

1. Allow yourself to complain of nothing, not even of the weather.
2. Never picture yourself to yourself under any circumstances in which you are not.
3. Never compare your own lot with that of another.
4. Never allow yourself to dwell on the wish that this or that had been, or were, otherwise than it was, or is. God Almighty loves you better and more wisely than you do yourself.
5. Never dwell on the morrow. Remember that it is God's, not yours."

Edward. Pusey 1800-1882

A desire~

“A man’s physical hunger does not prove that man will get any bread: he may die of starvation on a raft in the Atlantic. But surely a man’s hunger does prove that he comes of a race which repairs its body by eating, and inhabits a world where eatable substances exist.” In other words, “If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probably explanation is that I was made for another world." CS Lewis

Go to Him!

"Come unto Me." Matthew 11:28

Jesus calls you to His throne of grace. He is there waiting to hear, relieve and bless you. You are to go to Him just as you are--and receive from Him all you need.

He will give you:
wisdom--to direct your steps;
peace--to keep your hearts;
strength--to do His will;
righteousness--to justify your souls;
and rest--unspeakably sweet.

Celebrations!

May 3, 2010

We've had a busy few weeks! We welcomed Darrell Pugh home, celebrated Gotcha Day, had my student recital and went to Georgia to celebrate my brother's wedding. Sadly I forgot to take 1 picture at my recital and my camera died during the wedding- sigh. Here are a few shots from our busy few weeks :)

Happy Gotcha Day Miss Miri!

April 22, 2010

12 years ago we were meeting our girlie for the very first time! Mirielle loves hearing her story :). It goes something like this...

Once upon a time, there was a precious princess of Bashkortostan who was tucked away in a hospital in the little town of Miass, Russia. Her greatest longing was to have a family. Across the sea there was a family who for years had been praying with all their hearts for a little girl. They searched high and low trying to find her until one day they saw a picture of the princess of Bashkortostan and instantly they knew - this was their daughter! They had found her! As quickly as they could, King William and Queen Gisele :) flew across the sea-across Russia and then took a long drive into the Ural Mountains until they came to the little town of Miass. In a little hospital room, tears of joy flowed as the Princess was placed into the arms of the King and Queen. They were now a forever family! (This is where Miri says... OH, PLEASE tell me again!!!!)

God is soooo good!! Below are some of my favorite Miri pictures :) Happy Gotcha Day Girlie!!

Can you trace Him today?

April 21, 2010

"The believer sees and tastes free grace in every blessing of His Heavenly Father. He traces it in the sun that cheers him, in the spring that refreshes him, in the breeze that fans him, in the flowers that delight him. He sees it in the love that comforts him, in the friendship that strengthens him, in the sympathy that soothes him, in the outstretched hand that relieves his need." Winslow

Oh how wonderful the Father's love!!

A Divine Cordial

April 17, 2010

"There are two things, which I have always looked upon as difficult. The one is, to make the wicked sad; the other is, to make the godly joyful. Dejection in the godly arises from a double spring: either because their inward comforts are darkened, or their outward comforts are disturbed. To cure both these troubles, I have put forth this ensuing piece, hoping, by the blessing of God, it will buoy up their desponding hearts, and make them look with a more pleasant aspect. I would prescribe them to take, now and then, a little of this Cordial: all things work together for good to them that love God. To know that nothing hurts the godly, is a matter of comfort; but to be assured that all things which fall out shall co operate for their good, that their crosses shall be turned into blessings, that showers of affliction water the withering root of their grace and make it flourish more; this may fill their hearts with joy till they run over." Thomas Watson

Operation Engagement!

April 5, 2010

We called it, "Operation Engagement". The undercover operation began 2 weeks ago when Jon told us he was going to ask Julie to marry him on Friday, April 2nd! We knew the engagement party would be a surprise for Julie but we really wanted our coming to Florida to be a surprise for Jon too. We rather enjoyed the deception that flowed the following 2 weeks :). We became quite adept at expressing our intense sorrow over missing their big day :). By God's grace we pulled it off and oh how much fun it was! Here are a few shots taken by many- of their big day!

What to wear?

March 30, 2010

Oh what to wear for Easter :). The Lord is redirecting my thoughts this morning to what glorious things I can put on for His glory!

-Put on the armor of light~ Romans 12:13
-Put on the Lord Jesus Christ~ Romans 13:14
-Put on the new self~ Ephesians 4:24
-Put on the full armor of God~ Ephesians 6:11
-Put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience~ Colossians 3:12
-Put on love~ Colossians 3:14
-Put on the breastplate of faith and love~ 1 Thess. 5:8

Lean Upon the Fullness of Your Beloved!

March 24, 2019

You are to lean upon the fullness of your Beloved. He is full to a sufficiency for all the needs of His people. There cannot possibly occur a circumstance in your history, there cannot arise a necessity in your case, in which you may not repair to the infinite fullness which the Father has laid up in Christ for His Church in the wilderness. Why, then, seek in your poverty what can only be found in Christ’s riches? why look to your emptiness when you may repair to His fullness? “My grace is sufficient for you” is the cheering declaration with which Jesus meets every turn in your path, every crook in your lot, every need in your journey. Distrust then your own wisdom, look from your own self, and lean your entire weight upon the infinite fullness that is in Christ. Octavius Winslow

Needed Truth!

March 15, 2010

“You are the result of the attentive, careful, thoughtful, intimate, detailed, creative work of God. Your personality, your sex, your height, your features, are what they are because God made them precisely that way. He made you the way he did because that is the way he wants you to be… If God had wanted you to be basically and creatively different he would have made you differently. Your genes and chromosomes and creaturely distinctives – even the shape of your nose and ears – are what they are by God’s design.” – James Hufstetler

Psalm 139:14

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

The Throne of Grace!

March 9, 2010

"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:16.

The throne of grace is for the needy. It is always a time of need with a child of God. To such is the throne of grace always open. Is it a time of trial with you? then it is a time of need. Take your trial, whatever it be, simply to God. Do not brood over it. Do not cherish it. This will not make it sweeter, or more easy to be borne. But taking it to Jesus will. The very act of taking it will lighten it, and casting it upon His tenderness and sympathy will make it sweet.

Thank the Lord for every errand that takes you to the throne of grace. Whatever it is that sends you to prayer, count it one of your choice blessings. It may be a heavy cross, a painful trial, a pressing need; it may be a broken cistern, a cold look, an unkind expression; yet, if it leads you to prayer, regard it as a mercy sent from God to your soul. Thank God for an errand to Him. ~Octavius Winslow

The Last 2 Weekends

March 4, 2010

The last 2 weekends were quite full on our end! First we had the privilege of having Yeong-sil Ko visit for the weekend. 13 years ago we hosted Yeong-sil for a month while she studied English here at UNCC. She teaches English at a school in South Korea- and was once again studying English in the states so made a trip out here to see us. It was a wonderful reunion!

Last weekend we made a trip up to see Bill's parents in the mountains of NC. We love being with them and as always - enjoyed a wonderful weekend together!

Here are a few pictures from our time...

Live a life of faith!!

February 25, 2010

One of the books I'm reading is Practical Theology for Women by Wendy Horger Alsup. This book endeavors to bring its reader from simply verbalizing their faith in God to actually living a life of faith- grounded in the Word of God. I am only on the 4th chapter- but am sobered by her powerful call to live a life of faith!!

From chapter 3:

"We may stand on our soapbox and proclaim Jesus to be the way, the truth, and the life. But how do we respond to trouble? How do we deal with the hardships in life? What good is it if you can verbally defend Christ with the best of believers if your life contradicts your words through anxiety, fear, and worry?"

"When the rubber meets the road, it's not what you say that demonstrates faith in your life. It is what you do and how you respond in the moment of crisis."

Father please help us all live a life of invigorating faith that brings you much glory!!

Nothing...

February 19, 2010

Good news to behold!!

Nothing will ever happen to you that God does not already know about (psalm 139:1-4).

Nothing will ever happen to you that is a mistake (Psalm 139:4, 16)

Nothing will ever happen that you cannot handle by god's power and grace (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

Nothing will ever happen to you without God's presence (Matthew 28:20)

Nothing will ever separate you from God's love (Romans 8:38-39)

(Loving God With All Your Mind~ Elizabeth George)

A Faith that Pleases God

February 12, 2010

"God must be big in our minds. God needs to be at the forefront of our thought processes. He needs to be the first consideration in all of our daily circumstances, not the last resort that we consider after exhausting all other options. Believing in His existence- focusing with trust on His reality- is fundamental to a faith that pleases God." WH Alsup

Overhead...Underneath...All around...Inside...

February 6, 2010

Let's view our situations through the lens of God's truth as Ruth Graham models:

"Overhead are the overshadowing wings (Psalm 91:4); underneath are the everlasting arms (Deuteronomy 33:27); all around "the angel of the Lord encamps round about them that fear Him, and delivers them" (Psalm 34:7); inside, that "peace which passes all understanding" (Philippians 4:7)

Forgiveness~

February 5, 2010

"To forgive is the highest, most beautiful form of love. In return, you will receive untold peace and happiness." Muller

"Let us begin our Christian career with the full assurance that we shall have a great deal to forgive in other people, but that there will be a great deal more to be forgiven in ourselves, and let us set our account upon having to exercise gentleness, and needing its exercise from others, 'Forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.' " Spurgeon

The Safest Place~

February 4, 2010

"The safest place in the universe is with our arms around the neck of God." John Piper

Let us rest in Him, rely on Him, and rejoice in Him today!

Notes of Thanksgiving~

January 28, 2010

Let us ask God to draw music lines upon our hearts so that in every thing He gives, and everything He takes away-we can, by His grace, put on them notes of thanksgiving, and say to the Lord, with David,

"Every day will I bless Thee; and I will praise Thy name for ever and ever!"

Spurgeon ~paraphrased

A week of animals!

January 27, 2010

Here are a few random pics from this past week which amazingly include quite a variety of animals!

Problem Solved?

This is the culprit. Actually he's only 1 of the many who continue to steal bird seed. We decided to get serious... we bought a squirrel bluffer. No more seed little squirrels!! (Or so we pray!)

Plead His Promises!

January 20, 2010

“God’s promises were never meant to be thrown aside as waste paper; he intended that they should be used. God’s gold is not miser’s money, but is minted to be traded with. Nothing pleases our Lord better than to see his promises put in circulation; he loves to see his children bring them up to him, and say, Lord, do as thou hast said. We glorify God when we plead his promises.”

- Charles Spurgeon

Locks of Love!!

January 14, 2010

Yesterday was a big day for Miri and yes for Mom :). She has been growing her hair for several years now and when she heard about Locks of Love she decided someday she'd like to donate her hair to a child suffering from hair loss.

The amount of work her hair requires coupled with several recent teary combings- we decided to hurry up donation day!!

Below are the pics of Miri's special day!

The Voice of God

January 11, 2010

Daily choice: Will I listen to the loud, large voice of the world or the still, small voice of God in His word?
Let's be still and know Him!!

You never let go...

There is no love . . .
so gentle,
so patient,
so enduring,
as Christ's love.

Oh, my soul
Overflows
Oh, what love, oh, what love
Oh, my soul
Fills with hope
Perfect love that never lets go

Oh, what love, oh, what love
Oh, what love, oh, what love
In joy and pain
In sun and rain
You're the same
Oh, You never let go!

(David Crowder)

January 1, 2010

“In our Christian pilgrimage it is well, for the most part, to be looking forward. Forward lies the crown—and onward is the goal. Whether it is for hope, for joy, for consolation, or for the inspiring of our love—the future must, after all, be the grand object of the eye of faith.

Looking into the future, the Christian sees sin cast out, the body of sin and death destroyed, the soul made perfect, and fit to be a partaker of eternal glory. Looking further yet, the believer’s enlightened eye can see death’s river passed. He sees himself enter within the pearly gates, hailed as more than conqueror, crowned by the hand of Christ, embraced in the arms of Jesus, glorified with Him, and made to sit together with Him on His throne.” —Charles Spurgeon Happy New Year!
