January 30, 2009
Bill and I are going thru our second Dave Ramsey class. Our desire is to learn how to better steward our finances. We are looking for ways to cut back -especially on our grocery bill and I found this site called The Aldi Queen that may serve! The site is full of recipes and meal plans from Aldi Supermarket ingredients. I welcome ideas from everyone! Feel free to post here or email me privately. Lord may we glorify you in ALL we do!

Heart fixed...

January 29, 2009

"May your eye and heart to be fixed on Him. Then will your course be steady, and you will not be greatly moved by the many changes you will ever find within. Oh, press on after a life of faith in Jesus, for it is next in blessedness to a life of glory with Jesus. Beg of the blessed Spirit to draw your faith out continually upon His precious Person and work. Oh! may He cause you to come out of self continually, and find your all in Jesus! The more you are brought so to live upon Jesus, the more stability of soul you will experience. To Him I commend you--may He be revealed more fully in your soul." Ruth Bryan (1805-1860)

Losing Teeth!

January 27, 2009

Yesterday was an exciting day in Mirielle's life.
Not only did she lose another tooth...
but she lost 3 teeth in 5 days!

This took me down memory lane.
How I loved those toothless grins :).

Here's a picture of Jon when he lost 2 teeth in 1 day at Disney :)

I love Taylor's toothless grin!

So sweet :)

Teaspoon

January 26, 2009

Knowing I love quotes full of Truth that direct our gaze upward...my friend Reesa directed me to Bob Kauflin's blog today where I found this quote from Raymond Ortlund.

"We can settle into a routine of activities at church and in our small groups and Bible studies, with little expectation of anything new. The familiar becomes the predictable, and everything from here on out will be more of the same. We dip our teaspoon into the vast ocean of the living God. Holding that teaspoon in our hand, we say, “This is God.” We pour it out into our lives, and we say, “This is the Christian Experience.” (41)

This leads me to Octavius Winslow!

"And oh, what a Portion is God! All that He is and all that He has is ours! Every attribute of His being is over us, every perfection of His nature encircles us, every pulse of His heart beats for us, every glance of His eye smiles upon us. We dwell in God, and God dwells in us. It is not the world which is our portion, but HE who made, upholds and governs the world. It is not the creature who is our portion, but the Lord of angels and the Creator of men. Infinite portion! illimitable power! immeasurable grace! boundless love! all-satisfying good! all, all is ours!"

Let's set the teaspoon aside and receive ALL He has... amen?

Trip to Nana and Da's!

January 25, 2009

Bill and Mirielle took a weekend trip to see Bill's parents. They had a glorious time also visiting with Bill's sister Sherry who was visiting from California. I so wish I could have gone too! Miri came home telling me she had so much fun! Sherry's husband John works for The Extreme Makeover Home Edition and Miri told me that she and Aunt Sherry wore their shirts together on Friday :). Mirielle was also quite excited about the paperdolls Nana gave her . Thank you Nana!

We always look forward to worshipping with Bill's parents at The English Chapel. I've included some pictures along with a little history.
Here are a few pictures...

Grace Supplied!

January 24, 2009

"So he supplies perfectly measured grace to meet the needs of the godly. For daily needs there is daily grace; for sudden needs, sudden grace; for overwhelming need, overwhelming grace. God’s grace has given wonderfully, but not wastefully; freely but not foolishly; bountifully but not blindly."
John Blanchard

Lift up your heads!

January 23, 2009

"Lift up your heads, you who are poor, needy and disconsolate! Lift up your heads, and rejoice that Christ is ALL to you! All you need in this valley of tears. All you will need in the deepest sorrow. All you need under the heaviest affliction. All you need in sickness.
Indeed, Christ is IN ALL too. He is in all your salvation. He is in all your mercies He is in all your trials. He is in all your consolations. He is in all your afflictions.
What more can you want?
What more do you desire?
A Father who loves you as the apple of His eye!
A full Savior to whom to go, moment by moment!
"Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with confidence--so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Hebrews 4:16 (Octavius Winslow)

The God of All Comfort

January 22, 2009

Have you ever started a book and quickly realized its life changing potential? This is one of those books! If you'd like to check it out you can read the entire book online here. There are so many quotable sections but this morning I'm meditating on:

"As we look at the life of Christ and listen to His words, we can hear God saying, "I am rest for the weary; I am peace for the storm-tossed; I am strength for the exhausted; I am wisdom for the foolish; I am righteousness for the sinful; I am all that the neediest soul on earth can want; I am exceeding abundantly beyond all you can ask or think, of blessing, help, and care." Amen!

Snow- snow- snow!

We don't get much snow in Charlotte so this was quite a treat see this morning!!

What is true joy?

"Spiritual joy, on the other hand, is not an attitude dependent on chance or circumstances. It is the deep and abiding confidence that, regardless of one's circumstances in life, all is well between the believer and the Lord. No matter what difficulty, pain, disappointment, failure, rejection, or other challenge one is facing, genuine joy remains because of that eternal well-being established by God's grace in salvation. Thus, Scripture makes it clear that the fullest, most lasting and satisfying joy is derived from a true relationship with God. It is not based on circumstances or chance, but is the gracious and permanent possession of every child of God." John McArthur

Praying for healing

January 13, 2009
For those of you who don't know this dear couple...they are Mickey and Jane Connolly. Mickey serves as senior pastor of our church- Crossway Community Church. He has been enduring a physical illness that effects his vocal chords and is heading for another surgery on Friday I believe. As I read this Octavius Winslow quote- I am encouraged to pray in faith!!

"What is your sorrow? Has health failed you? Has property forsaken you? Have friends turned against you? Are you tried in your circumstances? Perplexed in your path? Are providences thickening and darkening around you? Are you anticipating seasons of approaching trial? Are you walking in darkness, having no light? Simply go to Jesus! He is an ever open door—a tender, loving, faithful Friend, ever near. He is a Brother born for your adversity. His grace and sympathy are sufficient for you. Go to Him in every trial—cast upon Him every burden—take the infirmity, the corruption, the cross as it arises—simply and immediately to Jesus! Jesus is your loving and confiding Brother and Friend, to go to at all times and under all circumstances."
Amen!

God's making biscuits :)

January 11, 2009

We know God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

A very helpful quote was shared at caregroup tonight from Jerry Bridges book Trusting God. So often we find our current trials and tribulations quite distasteful and it difficult to imagine how our trials can possibly be worked for good. Jerry Bridges writes:

"While growing up in Texas, I enjoyed my mother's buttermilk biscuits made from 'scratch' every morning for breakfast. But there was not a single ingredient in those biscuits that I would have enjoyed by itself. And even after they were mixed together, I would not have cared for the raw biscuit dough. Only after they were mixed together in the right proportions by my mother's skillful hands and then subjected to the fire of the oven were they ready to be enjoyed for breakfast."

"The 'things' of Romans 8:28 are like the ingredients of the biscuit dough. By themselves they are not tasteful to us. We shun them. And we certainly shun the heat of the oven. But when God in His infinite skill has blended them all together and cooked them properly in the oven of adversity, we shall one day say, it is good."

Thank you Lord for working ALL things for our good and Your glory! We can fully trust you in all things!

Pray for Jake

January 11, 2008

I woke this morning with my heart heavy for Jake. How does one process such a personal 'failure' apart from the Gospel? O Father- draw him to Yourself!

"Bewildered and oppressed by the multitude of anxious thoughts within you—is there not a danger of being so absorbed by the care as to overlook the Caretaker.. to forget the heart's ease in the overwhelming of the heart's anxiety? Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you!" Octavius Winslow

The Father cares for you Jake!

Let Your Mercy Rain

January 6, 2009

It's raining today and these wonderful lyrics from Chris Tomlin are running thru my head:

God You have done great things
God You give grace to the weak
And bless the brokenhearted
With a song of praise to sing

You reached down and lifted us up
You came running, looking for us
And now there's nothing
And no one beyond Your love

You're the overflow
You're the fountain of my heart
Let Your mercy rain
Let Your mercy rain on us

You're the faithful one
When the world's falling apart
Let Your mercy rain
Let Your mercy rain on us

How deep, how wide, how long, how high is Your love ... isYour love
How deep, how wide, how long, how high is Your love ... isYour love Oh, God
Chris Tomlin

Fresh new day~Fresh faith

January 4, 2009

I look forward to starting a new year! I have often thanked the Lord for creating time that allows us to experience a fresh new day- every 24 hours :). Imagine life as 1 long day? God is all wise.

My friend Bev encouraged me with the below reading from one of my favorites- Octavius Winslow. He has wonderful encouragement to usher us into the new year!

"All wisdom to guide, all power to uphold, all love to soothe, all grace to support, all tenderness to sympathize, dwells in Christ. Let us, then, gird ourselves to a fresh taking hold of Christ. We must walk through this year not by sight, but by faith- and that faith must deal simply and directly, with Jesus. "Without me you can do nothing." But with His strength made perfect in our weakness, we can do all things. " Amen!

Florida Part 3~

We had a glorious 4+ days in Orlando! We arrived Sunday night at the Davis family home. The Davis's amazingly offered us the use of their home while they were in the Carolina's. How we thank God for them! After unpacking- we headed to the VanLue's for a quick visit. Jon and Julie had just started their courtship so we wanted to hear all the details :). The next day my cousin Ryan and wife Tracy and girls (who were in FL on vacation) took Miri to Disney. She had such a blast! The rest of our time was spent with a few more treasured times with the VanLue's, a fun evening Christmas caroling with Todd Twining, a wonderful yet quick visit with Mom and Fred and then we were back on the road heading home. Here are a few pics!
